In order for students to be successful, they must have a global view of their future. The Internet is one of, if not the most important, tool a person has to be successful in their future. It provides jobs, resources and communication all over the world. It is essential that children learn to use and learn from the Internet.
Children need to understand Internet safety as well. For young children there should be restrictions as to the websites students can visit and the length of time. There are many websites that offer software for schools and parents to make sure their children are being safe on the Internet. An Internet safety policy sets forth the protocols by which students are protected from potentially dangerous content and people while using the Internet. The policy should list those deterrents and explain how they are to be used. Popular deterrents include "not lists," filters, and computer programs that prevent specific types of programs from being installed and used. "Not lists" are databases that contain the IP addresses of websites that students are not allowed to view. Filters work in much the same way, and they may also actively block websites based on the keywords found on them. |
